Bhopal 16.02.2022. The decision on replacing Hippocratic oath taken by medical students with Charak Shapath mentioned in the minutes of National Medical Commission (NMC) undergraduate board meeting last week is totally irrational, unaccepatable and ill-advised. Instead of creating such unnecessary controversies or symbolism, NMC should concentrate on improving quality of medical education, protecting the dignity of modern medicine and welfare of young medicos, said Dr Naresh Purohit, Executive Member of the Federation of Hospital Administrator.
Sharing his concern on this issue WHO- Covid-19 technical lead Dr Purohit in a statement said that it is unfortunate that such a move has come when Indian doctors have fought three waves of Covid with courage and determination. He added that tampering with the identity of modern medicine is “nothing but sacrilege.”
Noted Epidemiologist Dr Purohit pointed that NMC is trying to erase the identity of modern medicine and replace it with the “identity and legacy of a different system of medicine which is a betrayal of the profession”
In a mail texted to the Union Health Minister Dr Purohit demanded not to replace the oath at time when doctors are at the forefront of battling Covid.
